Location
The Met on Ellerslie is located on the pinnacle of Battery Point with spectacular 360 degree views of Hobart.
The site and adjacent land to the north has been in continuous use as a weather observation and monitoring station by the Bureau of Meteorology and State Meteorological Department since 1882.
The Met on Ellerslie is unique because it offers luxury living with spectacular panoramic views of Hobart 4 minutes walk from the Hobart Waterfront, Salamanca Place and Battery Point restaurants.
The Hobart Waterfront outlines Sullivans Cove and is rich in heritage as a working port, restaurant and recreation precinct, event venue and major tourist destination. The waterfront hosts annual events such as the food and wine Taste Festival, Wooden Boat Festival and Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. Historic Salamanca Place and Battery Point are located on the southern side of the waterfront.
Salamanca Place is made up of historic sandstone warehouses converted for commercial and recreational use. This nationally acclaimed part of the waterfront is a hub of cultural activity that is popular with locals and tourists. It is home to a wide variety of restaurants, bars, nightclubs, cafes, art and craft galleries, grocers and boutique shops. Salamanca Place is also famous for its weekend market specializing in arts, crafts, local produce, food and entertainment. A new local shopping centre is also proposed for construction nearby in 2012.
Battery Point is Hobart’s most historic suburb with the character of a Cornish fishing village of the last century. Battery Point began life as a home for mariners who worked out of the port of Hobart Town, and it remains mostly a residential area near the waterfront comprised of heritage listed colonial and federation homes classified by the National Trust. Arthurs Circus is a ring of colonial cottages surrounding the old village green at the heart of Battery Point. The area has several tea rooms and restaurants, general stores, fine antique shops, a Colonial Museum, pubs, hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation.
St David's Park is one of Hobart's treasures located in the city center just off Salamanca Place. It is a haven in a city that hardly needs one yet so beautifully green and only 4 minutes walk from The Met on Ellerslie.
